If a practice chart puts Norris ahead of Verstappen, the first question is whether the laps are comparable. What to watch

Start with the run. Separate preparation laps, clean timed laps, traffic and laps interrupted by a flag. Put tyre compound and known tyre age alongside the trace. When fuel load is unknown, keep it unknown; a precise-looking adjustment can make the comparison less honest. Then look at how the gap behaves. Is one driver faster only at the beginning? Does the difference persist over several comparable laps? Does it vanish when traffic clears? Each pattern suggests a different question for qualifying or the race.
